Perhaps you have a collection of items or photographs you've been saving to "do something with," but are not quite sure what you have in mind. Bring them along, and we'll play with ideas for an eye-catching way to present them. "Mary's House" This three dimensional display houses some of the treasured memories we have of my Italian mother-in-law. The interior walls are papered with her baptismal certificate and recipe cards in her own handwriting, and the "room" inside holds her rosary, a wedding picture and embroidered handkerchief, a curved upholstery needle and spool of thread from her industrial-strength sewing machine. The doors feature pictures of her son and daughter, lace and buttons from a prom dress, newspaper clippings and a plot plan from her home of 40 years. Outside, the house is painted in the colors of her favorite season, and the "garden" is made from broken pieces of ceramic knick-knacks.
I created this photo collage to honor my father's 80th birthday, including pictures that span his entire life (so far!) We used the collage as the cover art on an invitation to a gala celebration, and had decks of playing cards made up with the collage on the backs to give as favors to our guests. He has the collage prominently displayed to remember a very special occasion. |
